Updated look at spring and summer

As I sit here and type this, folks in far South Texas, East Texas and points eastward have been getting some solid rain. In fact, here is what the total rainfall has looked like for the past week (March 23rd through March 30th)

Obviously, other areas have not been as lucky. However, another storm is set to come out this week and likely drop some very heavy rain across eastern Oklahoma, the eastern half of Texas, and eastward into the Mississippi Valley. Areas farther west are likely to see rain too and they desperately need it across West Texas. However, those areas won’t get nearly as much rain as areas farther east. Sadly, it’s just been the pattern for the past three months. In fact, here is what the rainfall anomaly has looked like for the past three months.

Pretty sad stuff for west/southwest Texas… When we spoke last, I was talking about what the spring and early summer forecast was looking like. Here are the March models regarding temperature and precipitation.

It will be interesting to see what lies ahead next month with these models, to see if they relax the dry signal earlier, or keep it as is… Temperature-wise, it still looks like a warmer than average spring and summer. So, it’s probably a good idea to brace for some heat. Hopefully, we can shove some water in the ground out west and keep what’s been going on farther east.
