Just Your Standard Bull
September 30, 2024
The day is Sept.24th, and one-fourth of the college football season is already over! My Texas A&M Aggies are 3-1 with an opening loss to Notre Dame and victories over mighty McNeese State, the floundering Florida Gators and the tougher than expected Bowling Green Falcons.
As per usual, we are on our 2nd quarterback, as our starter, Conner Weigman nurses a sprained shoulder that he sustained in week 1. That’s the tough thing about injuries in football. You miss 2-3 weeks, and ¼ of the season is gone. If you miss 4-6 weeks, you are pretty much done for the year.
But now the meat of the order begins. The next four games are against Arkansas, Missouri, a bye on the 12th, Mississippi State and then LSU gets you through the month of October. Guesses? If they want to hold any hope for at least a 9-win season, they need to sweep these next four games.
The November games are South Carolina, New Mexico State, Auburn and Texas. In my opinion, the two toughest games remaining on the schedule are, at South Carolina and closing at home against Texas. South Carolina is winnable, but it will be tough.
And Texas? Well, they appear to be about as good as they were back in the days of Vince Young in 2005. They will have three tough games remaining in Oklahoma, Georgia and Texas A&M. Arkansas will play them tough as well, but I think they will beat the Hogs.
So, Texas A&M and Texas play once again on Thanksgiving weekend for the first time since 2011. And depending upon how the month of October goes for both teams, there may be more on the line than just bragging rights.
Come on October!
